Abstract

Disability is a part of the human condition. Almost everyone will experience it at some point in their life cycle. Disabilities that may occur include knee osteoarthritis, which is often accompanied by pain in the knee area, requiring specific interventions from doctors and physical therapists to reduce limitations in daily activities and to prevent the condition from worsening. OA (Osteoarthritis) is a chronic disorder of synovial joints characterized by the progressive softening and disintegration of joint cartilage, accompanied by cartilage growth and osteophyte formation, cyst formation, and subchondral bone sclerosis, mild synovitis, capsular fibrosis. This study was conducted using a retrospective method in 2017 at Universitas Airlangga Hospital, analyzing 190 patient medical records with SPSS software. The analysis results showed that the highest proportion of knee osteoarthritis cases was found in the age group of 60–69 years (41.6%), predominantly female (75.8%), with a body mass index category of 18.5–24.9 kg/m² (33.2%), a non-trauma history (75.8%), pain duration > 1 year (36.3%), unilateral involvement (51.6%), and most commonly grade II severity (26.3%). The osteoarthritis observed was a degenerative process affecting one side. The severity grade of OA experienced had not yet shown rapid progression.
